Description:
In this project, you will build a simulation tool to simulate the cryogenic environment in a superconductor-based quantum computer set-up. Standard commercial simulators rarely handle species decoupling alongside RF noise propagation natively out of the box, meaning custom solver development is required.
The work will consist of a literature study where suitable simulation tools are selected together with what key parameters to simulate.
Choosing programming languages, numerical libraries or open-source frameworks to assemble the custom tool
The work also consists of recognizing suitable parameters to simulate and ensure the selected simulation tool is befitting for the corresponding models. The student must investigate the literature to decide which cryogenic mechanisms matter most and map those physical parameters into the simulation framework.
Such parameters can be conducted and radiated heat, heat generation from electrical losses, special thermal effects at cryogenic environments such as Kapitza resistance and sheet conductivity. The tool should account for Johnson-Nyquist noise created by hot bodies and the distribution of such thermal noise. It should also account for frequency selective attenuation based on for example S-parameters of electrical devices. In addition, de-coupling of different temperatures of different species (electron temperature, phonon temperature, photon temperature) should be taken into account.
Integrate multiple physics models from above into a single unified framework.
